At long last…. The wifi lib release!
Yup, that’s right.
Version 0.3 is out at last!
A huge number of improvements and features have been added since the last version, making this finally a library you can *do something* with.
An abbreviated list of improvements goes like this: WEP, DHCP, TCP, ICMP, DNS, WFC data, but all those are just the major points, there’s a lot of work that’s been done under the surface and the internals will run much more smoothly too.
Anyway, please read the readme included for vital information about naming conventions and installation… and Here are the links!
Downloads:
dswifi_lib_v0.3_lib.zip (181k) – Minimal package includes debug and release libraries and include files
dswifi_lib_v0.3_source.zip (188k) – Full Library source release, does not include any examples
dswifi_lib_v0.3_examples.zip (243k) – Examples release, does not include library – includes wifi_lib_test and a minimal demonstration example
I wish you all much luck and look forward to seeing what comes of this!

[...] I’m a little late posting this due to some hosting issues, but I guess it’s better late than never. Stephen Stair has released v0.3 of his Wi-Fi library for the Nintendo DS, allowing you to write DS software that uses wireless networking, such as multiplayer games, internet-connected applications, or whatever other great idea you may have. As usual, the source code is also available for download, in case you’d like to hack around with it. You can download the lib over at his site. [...]

Still do not “see” my draytec 2500W wireless modem router but I can see, just like the older versions, 3 neighbour AP’s. I don’t know why ?? Does this has anything to do with the chipset of the AP’s ?
April 25th, 2006 at 6:22 pm
The wifi_lib_test 0.3 associates with my WEP AP wonderfully, obtains an IP address, and DNS is working. But when I try to connect to telnet (port 23), when I hit enter I see a few small “2″ characters (exponential-looking) and a couple of other symbols like this:
2 2 2# 2′
Anyone have similar experience and/or proposed solutions?
April 26th, 2006 at 10:59 am
Wow! Thank you! I can’t to see all the homebrew this will help! :)
April 26th, 2006 at 1:30 pm
When I choose WFC data connect a get an error saying
“cannot connect to access point cancel to continue”
Any help
PS. Thanks you, this is amazing!
April 26th, 2006 at 2:29 pm
This is great, I can finaly connect to my access point without fail.
Cant wait to see what your going to do next Stephen

Huzzah!

Shared authentication doesn’t work. At least, not shared WEP authentication. But WEP with open authentication works fine. I switched my network to open now (it’s supposed to be more secure anyhow), but maybe you should mention that somewhere.

well shit Good work …!!!

HDfatboy: see if your router has ssid broadcast disabled, this needs to be enabled for the current version of the lib.
FlyingSquirrl: possibly terminal characters? I’m not emulating a full terminal, just giving an approximate telnet connection.
A2hok: it’s unclear what is causing your problem, there are still a few kinks involving certain kinds of routers and settings, some of which will be worked on in the next release.
Matt: Yes, Shared authentication is not supported in the current version of the lib (though it was initially planned).
And to all: for an approximate bug list and a list of features that are going to be implemented in a future lib version, see the checklist (wiki.akkit.org/SgstairChecklist)
Thanks for all the replies, and good luck with your projects again :)

Great work Stephen! Congratulations

This has been really annoying me – it seems that before anything else, it scans the area for routers rather than getting information from the DSs firmware.
This is desperately irritating because my router has a hidden SSID so it will not respond to searches unless you supply the correct SSID.
Could you make it so it supports hidden SSIDs in future please?

Nivi: sheesh, this is a ways back to be posting something…
Anyway, your request is one of the things I’m actively working on at present, I would like to add it for the 0.3a release.
